“Ice is sharp when it needs to be, and soft when it must be.”

Full Name: Azrael
Aliases: Az, Azzy, Azra, Ashley, Ash
Age: --
Occupation: The Angel of Death
Species: Seraphim
Face Claim: Lyndsy Fonseca

Sexual Preference: Bisexual (preference for men)
Marital Status: Single
Current Residence: Near Sanctus
Social Class: N/A
Personality: Az can probably best be described as someone who cares about others way more than she cares about herself. She's cunning when she needs to be, harsh when she needs to get things done, and great at giving advice. Unfortunately, Azrael also suffers from a lot of depression, and will go into bouts of solitude rather than talk to people.
Appearance: Chocolate-brown hair, green-blue eyes (bluer when she's at full power), jet-black wings with blue undertones

Parents: God
Siblings: Too many to count
Important Figures: Meilseoir (husband - deceased), Dinia (daughter - deceased)
Home Town/Planet: Somewhere near Mesopotamia/Jerusalem, Heaven, Earth
Powers/Skills: Any normal angelic abilities (flying, dream-walking, smiting, etc), Touch of Death (smiting without the flashy white light), Ice/Cold Manipulation
Weaknesses: Angel Blades, Holy Fire, Leviathan, other angel weaknesses
History: Long ago, there was a prophet named Azra, and he had a profound respect for Death that was above anyone else's. But Azra wasn't just another prophet. No, he was a she, and she had a husband and a daughter. But when God hand-picks you to be an angel, and sends Uriel to convince you to work for Heaven, you don't just say no.

Many years passed, and during this time, Azra -- now Azrael -- forgot about her family. But having been a human before, it was difficult to break the new angel from her rebellious tendencies. Azrael can't remember how many times she was reprogrammed, but it was enough to where God finally got fed up enough to dump her completely on Death. She was to be The Angel of Death after all, the keeper of a little black book known as The Roster. Azrael's job wasn't to kill people it seemed, it was to judge souls, erasing the names of the dead and writing the names of new lives before sorting souls into Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory.

Az was good at here job. But one day, Azrael stumbled upon a heaven that was unlike any other. It was familiar, and when the angel realized this was the heaven of her daughter - and when she realized her daughter had died only days after she transitioned from Azra to Azrael - she snapped. The Angel of Death sought Pestilence, and together, her and Death's brother created the Black Plague.

It was no surprise when Azrael was cast out, and so she has remained on Earth for several hundred years. She isn't proud of the years leading up until WWII, and refuses to talk about it. She has nightmares about the things she did, and is prone to flashbacks and panic attacks over memories of her human life. But Az is a changed angel. Or at least as changed as you can be in a world like the one they're living in.

All of this has made Az extremely closed off to people, and she's more likely to stab you as a first introduction than slap you on the back and shake your hand. But once you get past her icy exterior, she's probably the most loyal friend you'll ever have.

Because of her profound loyalty, Azrael will always be sympathetic to humans, and she will always do her best to protect them. If that means wandering around fending off Croats, then so be it. At least in helping others, she can work on clearing her conscience. Hopefully, she can still keep up work in The Roster in the mean time, otherwise she'll be backed up on souls until the end of time.

Not that it would be surprising, as she's supposed to be the last creature in existence to die. But Az can worry about that later.

Roleplay Sample:

Thunder rolled across the grey sky, dark clouds tumbling overheard. Azrael had sensed the rain long before it started to form, the ice in her grace flowing faster than ever. The chill in the air would send shivers down anyone else's spine, but it was different for The Angel of Death. Az's grace didn't burn red and hot like most angels, it was cold. Freezer burn if you will, and reminiscent of another angel she didn't like thinking about. An angel she'd looked up to so long ago, but wouldn't dare speak the name of now.

A crack of thunder and a flash of lightning pulled her thoughts back into reality, and Az peered from her hiding place at the tall walls of what she knew to be Sanctus. She was some distance away where the guards couldn't see her, but she'd sneaked up close to the walls several times before. There'd been moments when she'd wondered what it would be like to live within the walls, but considering all the Enochian warding etched into the concrete, she knew it would take special permission to enter the community.

Maybe it didn't matter. Azrael was an angel after all, she didn't need food or sleep or shelter the way humans did. The way other supernatural creatures did. And so she spent the next few minutes convincing herself she was better off on the outside, helping weary travelers and wondering what the hell her eldest brothers were doing. Something destructive most likely.

With another crack of thunder came the snarling cackles of what Azrael knew to be a Croatoan pack. She jerked her head to the left, sticking closer to the shadows as they drew near. It seemed the military up at Sanctus were distracted, because the angel didn't hear any alarms. Fine then. It was up to her.

"HEY!" she shouted just as the first drops of rain sputtered and fell onto the earth. She felt the chill in her bones as the Croats noticed her, snarling with bloodlust. But Azrael just raised her eyebrows, pulling her angel blade from under the back of her jacket, stepping further into view as lightning illuminated her silhouette. Then it was all a cacophony of rolling thunder, screaming Croatoan, and an angel who was starting to wonder why she was still fighting.

At least killing Croats gave her something to do other than The Roster.

Her blade stabbed through the bodies, the noise rising up over the wind. Az knew she'd draw attention like this, but it was better to get at the pack before it got to close to others. Unfortunately, she couldn't just smite all of them. Azrael may have been The Angel of Death, but she was weak more days than not thanks to being disconnected from Heaven for so long. But she fought, and there were several dead bodies around her before Az started to run.

Okay, so maybe she'd bit off more than she could chew. It happens. But it was pouring rain, and there were still a lot of Croats, so Azrael did the only thing she could: she ran towards the gates of Sanctus.

"CROATOAN!" she shouted, hoping they would hear as she made it to the walls. "Someone better help me or something!" the angel shouted, turning back towards the pack as they ran towards her. And now Az was scared, because she'd already used up energy to fly away, there was a Croatoan pack running right towards her...and she'd run out of bullets several days ago.

Things weren't looking great.
